The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), founded in 1931 by Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious institutions dedicated to statistics, mathematics, and data science. Recognised as an Institution of National Importance by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament (1959, ISI has shaped the analytical foundations of modern India from national economic planning to cutting-edge research.
The Bangalore Centre, established in 1978, extends ISI's legacy into one of India's most vibrant technology and research ecosystems. Situated in the heart of India's Silicon Valley, the centre maintains active research groups in Statistics, Mathematics, System science and Quality Management and Library sciences.
